Oct 21, 2022 FUNCTIONS

The term “locking” covers a range of functions such as:

  • Securing an object in a closed location in order to protect it against theft

  • Securing the entrances and exits of premises.

  • Controlling the passage of persons and their access to premises.

Three types of technology are used for locking applications:

-electric actuators (motor + bolt-and-nut system)

-electric motor

-electromagnet (electromagnetic lock).

Electromagnets are very simple, highly reliable, compact and competitively priced.

In former times, locks were open and shut manually using keys. Progress in electronics means that this type of functionality can now be controlled remotely by means of a code, card or signal (or even a smartphone).

We are constantly faced with such systems wherever we go.

Example applications for actuators:

Actuator to secure goodsstrong box, swimming pool locker, chest, jewellery case, key-locked cupboard, cash register, heavy back door, letter box, self-service bicycles, etc.

Actuator to secure persons: emergency exit, anti-panic system, actuated safety devices, door rail, etc.

Actuator to permit access: turnstile (public transport or company), hotel rooms, banks, etc.

The sectors of activity involved include, for example: public transport, local authorities, establishments attended by the public (hospitals, concert halls, etc.), high street shops, etc.
